This photograph was published in the 7th volume April 2016 edition of Swallow the Moon, a journal published through the Student Writers Group and the Writing Center at Oakland University.

I took this photograph one afternoon in the summer after I had to fix a screen door that slid out of the vinyl track when I opened it. I did not notice when or how the leaf got stuck on there, but once the door was back in place I finally did notice it while looking out into the backyard. Immediately I recognized the shape and impression of a bird in the leaf's body. A graceful juxtaposition combined with how the afternoon light in the backyard was shining behind it, I knew I had to snap a picture!
