Whether this boy is just a boy or a ghost, he belongs with the night. His friends and family are the nocturnal creatures represented by their own uniquely-shaped eyes. The stippling technique was applied particularly to the boy to give the suggestion of goosebumps - if he is a boy. Yet at the same time, the black paper shows through the layer of stippled oil pastels suggesting the boy is not entirely opaque.
